Everything You Need to Know About Your New Companion

Choosing to bring an African Grey into your life is a big decision. At Exotic Parrot Store, we believe in empowering our customers with knowledge. Below are the most frequently asked questions regarding our birds, our shipping process, and our avian equipment.

General Bird Inquiries

Yes. Every bird in our nursery, from the Congos to the Timnehs, undergoes professional DNA testing. This ensures you know the sex of your bird and confirms they are free from major avian diseases like PBFD and Polyomavirus.

While both are highly intelligent, Congo African Greys are larger with bright red tails and black beaks. Timneh African Greys are slightly smaller, have maroon tails, and are often known for being more adaptable to busy households. You can find a full comparison on our Congo vs. Timneh blog post.

We strictly follow Abundance Weaning. This means babies like Diana or Joe only go to their new homes once they are fully weaned onto solid food, which is typically between 12 and 16 weeks of age.

Shipping & Logistics

Absolutely. We use specialized, climate-controlled avian transport services. Your bird travels in a pressurized cabin, not a standard cargo hold. We have successfully shipped birds across the country with a 100% safety record.

Shipping costs vary based on your location and the current airline rates. Generally, shipping within the continental US ranges from $150 to $250, which includes the airline-approved travel crate.

Yes. If you are local, you can arrange a pickup at our facility. Please note that large items like King’s Aluminium Cages are currently Collection Only due to their size and weight.

Care & Equipment

For a Congo African Grey, we recommend a cage no smaller than 24″W x 22″D. Our King’s Aluminium ACP2522 is the gold standard for this species because it is non-toxic and incredibly durable.

ava wood is a natural, extremely hard wood that provides varied diameters for your bird’s feet. This prevents arthritis and Bumblefoot while providing a safe, non-toxic surface for chewing.

Their diet should consist of 60-70% high-quality organic pellets, with the remainder being a “Chop” of fresh vegetables, some fruit, and healthy grains. Avoid avocado, chocolate, and caffeine at all costs.

Policies & Guarantees

Yes. We offer a comprehensive health guarantee that includes a 72-hour window for you to have your bird examined by an avian vet. We also guarantee against congenital defects.

Because we deal with live animals, we have a specific Refund and Return Policy designed to protect the welfare of the birds. Please review it carefully before making a deposit.
