Ethical African Grey breeder :Our Nursery & Breeding Ethics
Raising the Next Generation of African Grey Companions
Ethical African Grey breeder :At Exotic Parrot Store, we believe that the first 12 weeks of a parrot’s life determine the next 60 years of their happiness. We don’t just “sell” birds; we cultivate lifelong companions. Our nursery is a labor of love, grounded in the highest standards of avian science and ethical breeding practices.
Whether you are bringing home a Congo African Grey or a Timneh, you are receiving a bird that has been raised with meticulous care, clinical precision, and deep affection.
The Exotic Parrot Store Standard: Our 4 Pillars
1. Hand-Rearing & Socialization
We specialize in hand-raised babies. Unlike mass-produced birds, our chicks are handled daily from the moment they are pulled for hand-feeding.
-
Early Socialization: Our babies are exposed to various sights, sounds, and different people. This ensures that your bird is confident, curious, and ready to integrate into a modern household.
-
Emotional Stability: By providing a nurturing environment, we reduce the risk of “one-person bird” syndrome and feather-plucking behaviors often seen in poorly raised parrots.
2. The Weaning Process
We never rush our birds. We follow a “Abundance Weaning” philosophy.
-
Student-Led Weaning: We wait for each individual bird—like Diana or Joe—to show us they are ready for solid food. We never “force-wean” to meet a shipping deadline.
-
Diverse Diet: Before leaving our nursery, our babies are introduced to premium organic pellets, “chop” (fresh vegetables), and healthy grains to ensure they are adventurous eaters in their new homes.
3. Bio-Security & Health Oversight
The health of our flock is our primary concern. Our nursery is a closed environment designed to prevent the introduction of avian pathogens.
-
Veterinary Partnerships: We work closely with certified avian veterinarians to monitor the growth and health of every chick.
-
DNA Testing: Every African Grey parrot for sale in our nursery is DNA-sexed and screened for major avian diseases, including PBFD, Polyomavirus, and Chlamydia.
4. Ethical Rehoming
We view ourselves as the “guardians” of these birds until they find their permanent families.
-
Owner Screening: We reserve the right to ensure our birds are going to homes that understand the commitment of an African Grey.
-
Lifetime Support: When you buy from Exotic Parrot Store, you become part of our extended flock. We offer lifetime guidance on training, nutrition, and behavior.
Inside Our Nursery
Our facility is equipped with state-of-the-art incubation and brooding technology. We maintain strict temperature and humidity controls to mimic the natural nesting environment of the African Grey.
But more than the technology, it is the time we invest. Every bird is treated as an individual with a unique personality. Whether it’s the bold curiosity of a Congo Grey or the playful spirit of a Timneh, we nurture those traits to help them flourish.
Transparency You Can Trust
We invite all potential owners to learn more about our specific birds. Transparency is the hallmark of an ethical breeder. If you have questions about our nursery protocols or the lineage of a specific bird, our team is always here to provide answers.
